INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR JOB DESCRIPTION — LMHC

Role Title: Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

Contract Type: Independent Contractor (1099)

Reports To: Executive Director (administrative)

Clinical Autonomy: Full, within WA scope of practice

Setting: Telehealth + future in-office services

SUMMARY OF ROLE

The LMHC provides mental health assessment, individual, couples, and/or family counseling using evidence-based, trauma-informed, and client-centered therapeutic approaches. The role supports Soundview’s commitment to ethical, transparent, high-quality behavioral healthcare while preserving full clinical autonomy.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Services

  • Provide psychotherapy consistent with WA State licensure and ethical standards.

  • Conduct intake assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and ongoing therapeutic sessions.

  • Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans.

  • Document services in accordance with WAC 246-341 requirements.

  • Use evidence-based modalities within scope and training (CBT, DBT, MI, EMDR, ACT, etc.).

  • Maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries and confidentiality.

  • Coordinate care with ARNPs, SUD providers, and community partners as needed.

Documentation

  • Complete progress notes within 72 hours of each session.

  • Document medical necessity, interventions, and client progress.

  • Maintain accurate clinical records in the EHR.

Collaboration & Culture

  • Optional (encouraged) participation in weekly case management meetings.

  • Optional (encouraged) attendance at monthly agency meetings.

  • Uphold Soundview’s culture of ethical practice, transparency, and provider well-being.

Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Adhere to RCW 18.225, WAC 246-809, and WAC 246-341 standards.

  • Maintain active licensure, CE requirements, and professional liability insurance.

  • Follow HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 (if applicable), and confidentiality rules.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active LMHC license in Washington State.

  • Experience working with diverse populations and clinical presentations.

Role Title: Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) or SUD Professional Trainee (SUDPT)

Contract Type: Independent Contractor (1099)

Reports To: Executive Director (administrative) & Clinical Supervisor (per WAC, for SUDPT level competencies—not employment supervision)

Clinical Autonomy: Within scope defined by WAC 246-811 and WAC 246-341

Setting: Telehealth + future in-office services

SUMMARY OF ROLE

The SUDP/SUDPT provides assessments, individual counseling, group services, and case management for clients with substance use and co-occurring needs. The role supports Soundview’s mission of clinically sound, ethically transparent care while maintaining the professional independence appropriate to an independent contractor.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Services

  • Conduct SUD assessments consistent with ASAM criteria and WAC 246-341.

  • Provide individual counseling and Level 1 outpatient services.

  • Facilitate SUD groups (education, skills-based, support).

  • Collaborate with LMHCs, ARNPs, and community systems.

  • Provide relapse prevention, harm reduction, and recovery planning.

  • Assist with ADIS or psychoeducation offerings if trained.

Documentation

  • Complete progress notes within 72 hours of each service.

  • Document clinical impressions, ASAM dimensions, interventions, and client progress.

  • Maintain accurate and timely assessment summaries, treatment plans, and discharge notes.

  • Use Soundview’s EHR for all documentation.

Collaboration & Culture

  • Optional attendance at weekly case management meetings.

  • Optional attendance at monthly agency meetings.

  • Uphold Soundview’s trauma-informed, client-centered, ethical culture.

Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Adhere to WAC 246-341 (Behavioral Health Agencies) and WAC 246-811 (SUDP).

  • Maintain active certification and required continuing education.

  • Follow HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality requirements.

  • SUDPTs must work within WA’s trainee scope and under required clinical supervision (not employment supervision).

QUALIFICATIONS

For SUDP:

  • Current WA State SUDP credential.

  • Experience with SUD, co-occurring disorders, harm reduction, and recovery models.

  • Competence in SUD assessment and ASAM placement criteria.

For SUDPT:

  • Active SUDPT registration.

  • Ability to work under appropriate clinical supervision per WAC 246-811.

  • Demonstrated coursework or training in addiction counseling.

General Qualifications (both roles)

Role Title: Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)

Contract Type: Independent Contractor (1099)

Reports To: Executive Director (administrative only)

Clinical Autonomy: Full independent practice authority per RCW 18.79

Setting: Telehealth + future in-office services

SUMMARY OF ROLE

The ARNP provides psychiatric evaluations, medication management, consultation, and ongoing behavioral health treatment for clients across the lifespan, depending on training. This role supports Soundview’s mission to deliver ethical, trauma-informed, client-centered care while preserving full clinical independence under Washington’s Full Practice Authority.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Services

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments.

  • Provide ongoing medication management, monitoring, titration, and adherence support.

  • Formulate individualized treatment plans and collaborate with therapists/SUDP providers.

  • Assess medical and psychiatric symptoms, side effects, functional impact, and risk factors.

  • Develop crisis response or safety plans as clinically indicated.

  • Provide psychoeducation on medications, diagnoses, and treatment options.

  • Coordinate care with primary care providers, specialists, and community partners when needed.

Documentation

  • Complete progress notes and medication management documentation within 72 hours of each session.

  • Document medical necessity, interventions, clinical impressions, risk assessments, and treatment plans.

  • Complete high-risk or safety-related documentation same day when feasible.

  • Maintain accurate and timely records in Soundview’s EHR per WAC 246-341 and 246-840.

Prescribing Responsibilities

  • Prescribe legend drugs and controlled substances within scope of practice.

  • Follow RCW 69.50, PMP requirements, and DEA regulations.

  • Conduct and document controlled substance monitoring when applicable.

  • Maintain current DEA registration and WA prescriptive authority.

Collaboration & Culture

  • Optional participation in Soundview’s weekly case management meetings.

  • Optional attendance at monthly agency meetings centered on culture, ethics, and quality.

  • Engage professionally with internal teams through Qliq secure messaging.

  • Contribute to Soundview’s values of transparency, ethical practice, trauma-informed care, and provider well-being.

Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Practice consistent with RCW 18.79, WAC 246-840, WAC 246-341, and national psychiatric APRN standards.

  • Maintain required continuing education for ARNP licensure and DEA if applicable.

  • Uphold HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality regulations.

  • Maintain professional boundaries and ethical practice standards.

  • Carry malpractice insurance meeting minimum coverage requirements ($1M/$3M).

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Active Washington State ARNP license with prescriptive authority.

  • DEA registration (if prescribing controlled substances).

  • Experience in psychiatric or integrated behavioral health settings.

  • Ability to practice independently under WA Full Practice Authority.

  • Strong assessment, diagnostic, and medication management skills.

  • Excellent documentation, communication, and telehealth competency.

Preferred

COMPENSATION

  • 70/30 revenue split (70% to provider, 30% retained by Soundview for billing/admin/EHR)

  • Monthly payouts based on collected revenue

  • Provider determines their own schedule and caseload
